THE Namibian Rugby team has landed in Kamitonda, Japan to officially kick off its Rugby World Cup campaign ahead of their first match against Italy on Sunday.
They arrived over the weekend after traveling for almost 48 hours.
News from the camp is that the people of Kamitonda received the players in a festive atmosphere.
“This was a true taste of Japanese hospitality and culture and the program of the evening included performances, speeches and gift exchange,” the team’s Media Manager Daniella Filipovic said.
She also said that, the Namibian Ambassador to Japan, Morven Luswenyo gave a word of encouragement to the players.
“The Ambassador not only shared gifts of good luck charms to the team, but also gave a few words of encouragement and the assistance and support which his office is offering the team whilst in Japan,” she said.
Community members of Kamitonda as well as World Rugby representatives, players and management, Ambassador Luswenyo attended the event.
The team started with their first training on Monday at the Kamitonda Sports Complex where they focused more on getting ready for the first match against Italy on Sunday.
