THE environment ministry is cautioning communities in the Malansrus area to refrain from eating meat from the carcass of an elephant bull that was discovered this morning.
According to the Ministry of Environment and Tourism spokesperson, Romeo Muyunda, the dead elephant has only been reported to the ministry on Friday morning and staff members are on their way to inspect and assess the cause of death.
“Judging from the information we received, the tusks are still intact, therefore we’re ruling out the possibility of poaching. We suspect the elephant died due to drought related issues. The public should refrain from eating the meat until we know for sure it is not anthrax,” Muyunda warmed.
