THE pugilists for the final punch up in “The battle: Namibia vs China” boxing bonanza met for the finally face off for the match to be held on Saturday at the Ongwediva Trade Fair Centre.
China’s 24-year-old Dong Youli, the current World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific Youth welterweight champion, will be facing Namibia’s Mikka Shonena ahead of their WBO international fight.
It is the first time the Chinese boxer and his team are in Namibia.
Dong currently has 14 wins, one draw and one defeat under his belt, while the 31-year-old Shonena, who is still undefeated after 14 professional fights, is the WBO Africa welterweight champion.
During the weigh-in for the fight that took place on Friday afternoon, Shonena’s weight was 66.30 kg, while Dong weighed in at 66.20kg just under the 66.68kg weight limit for the match.
The boxing tournament will start with nine undercards as the main focus is on Harry Simon Junior who will battle against his Zimbabwean opponent Philip Musariri in the Junior Welterweight international fight over eight rounds.
