A WOMAN residing in the Goreangab settlement has become yet another statistic and will most likely be scarred for life after a robber broke into her house past midnight at the start of the weekend and raped her in front of her mother and child.
According to the Namibian Police, the incident happened on Friday, 16 August, at around 02:00.
It is alleged that the three people in the house, namely the victim, her mother and her young daughter, were overpowered by an unknown male suspect who gained entry to their house while they were sleeping.
The suspect allegedly held them at gunpoint before robbing them, but instead of making off with the stolen goods, decided to rape one of the women.
The suspect reportedly had his face covered with a balaclava and was armed with a Revolver and a knife. He demanded money from the victims but he later took a TV set and two mobile phones with a total value of N$29 600.
The suspect fled the scene and no arrest has been made yet.
Police investigations continue.
Three more cases of rape were reported over the past weekend.

NamPol spokesperson, Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi, said the victim reported the incident to the police and the suspect, an 18-years-old, was arrested.
In a separate rape case in Wanaheda, police reported that on Sunday at an unknown time in Okuryangava area, a 20-year-old male suspect raped a 15-years-old girl.
The victim reported the incident and the suspect was taken into custody.
In another incident in Mariental on Friday between 20:00 and 21:30 at the new location, it is alleged that an unidentified male suspect lied to a victim living with a mental disability that he was going to take her to her caretaker. He, however, reportedly dragged the victim into his house and proceeded to raped her.
