SENEGAL is through to the final of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament after Tunisia scored an own goal in extra time.
Tunisia’s Dylan Bron scored an own goal ten minutes into the first half of extra time and handed the lead to Senegal.
The Teranga Lions defended the lead and at the end of extra time it paid off in the form of the 1 – 0 victory.
Drama ensued as a handball penalty for Tunisia in the last minutes of extra time was disallowed by the video assisted referee and Tunisia could not score the equaliser in the time left.
The last 15 minutes of normal playtime in the match saw both Tunisia and Senegal failing to capitalise on penalties to take the lead.
The first penalty was conceded after a Senegalese player blocked an attempt at goal with his elbow. The Senegalese goalkeepers prevailed and the scores remained level.
A few minutes later a late tackle in the penalty area of Tunisia saw Senegal taking a chance at goal and again the scores remained equal at 0 – 0 after the goalkeeper managed to deflect the kick.
