NamPol members aim for unity through sports

A TOTAL of 850 members of the Namibian Police Force are participating in the 24th Police Annual Sports championship in Oshakati and represents 16 000 other members of the force.
The Inspector General of the Namibian Police, Lieutenant General Sebastian Ndeitunga, said the force has a dynamic work ethic that stands ready for any national call of duty, which also includes participating in sports.
“The Namibian Police Force National sports championship has come a long way and has improved very much,” said Ndeitunga.
The sports championship started with a few sport codes, such as soccer, netball, volleyball and athletics. It than grew to more sport codes, such as darts, pool, long distance marathon, chess and more recently parade ground drills has been added as a new competitive code.
General Ndeitunga, stated that from this year’s winners, a few will be selected to represent NamPol during the forthcoming 10th edition of the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation organization (SARPCCO) games, scheduled from 1 to 5 August this year in Luanda, Angola.
Speaking at the same occasion, Oshana Regional Commander, Commissioner Rauha Amwele this championship must be seen as a time of coming together and knowing each other better law enforcers to deepen their cooperation and friendship.
“Our get together here today symbolizes an important occasion, as it provides for the official start of the prestigious sport tournament of the Namibian Police Force,” cited Amwele.
According to her, the annual sports championship is aimed at fostering friendship, understanding and cooperation between their individual members, units, stations and regions through the participation in this very important sports event.
Oshana region is hosting the NamPol annual sports championship for the third. The championship started on Monday and is expected to conclude today.
