SRI LANKA have beaten Afghanistan by 34 runs by way of the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in Cardiff to register their first points on the log of the 2019 Cricket World Cup tournament
Sri Lanka denied Afghanistan a famous victory by winning a low-scoring thriller the low scoring match that was interrupted by rain for several hours. The rain forced the play to be curtailed to 41 overs per side.

Chasing 187, Afghanistan lost too many wickets at regular intervals for them to ever be in the driving seat of the match.
