Cricket World Cup 2019 gets underway

Sports Reporter
WITH Namibia’s national cricket team recently being crowned champions of the second division of the ICC World Cricket League at the end of April this year interest in the Cricket World Cup Tournament that is about to start at The oval in England will be high.
Hosts England will be opening their bid to win the tournament for the first time when they take on South Africa in the opening match.
Defending champions Australia along with Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and West Indies also make up the ten-team competition.
National teams participating in the world championship will all play each other once in 50-over matches across 11 venues in England and Wales. The top four teams from the group stage advance to the semi-finals before the final at Lord’s on 14 July.
While the viewers of the tournament will range well into the tens of millions, the BBC reports that organisers said that 95% of 800 000 available tickets have been sold, adding it is believed a third of these ticket holders will be new to cricket.
Readers of Informanté can look forward to regular updates on fixtures and results as the tournament progresses in England.
