AN urgent warning has been issued to people not to ingest or use salt, looted from an accident scene in southern Namibia.
A heavy truck transporting a consignment of salt overturned on the road between Aus and Lüderitz on Monday and the Namibian Police and the company to which the truck belongs, Coleman Transport, said that the salt was destined for use in the industrial processes of nearby mines and that it it poses a danger if ingested by humans or animals.
According to a police report some members of the local community went to take some of this salt and sold it to other people.
“Therefore with great concern Coleman Transport communicated through the Namibian Police that the salt can pose a health risk to especially humans.”
The warning stated that people who took or bought the salt should not use it and should rather get rid of it.
