THIRTEEN years after the gruesome killing of her daughter that left Swakopmund residents shocked, Fredericka Owoses, today finally took the stand in the high court to testify on her ordeal.

Owoses told the court that her daughter’s killers to date have not apologised to her family.

She formed part of the state’s submission on aggravating factors before the killers, Kingsley Dausab, 46, and Michael Tsowaseb ,44, are sentenced.

They reportedly killed 34-year-old Menesia Owoses after a night of drinking.

They also faced a rape claim; however, they were acquitted on the charge due of a lack of sufficient evidence.

They now face charges of murder, violating a dead body and theft.  The state is charging that the duo violated Menesia’s body by inserting pieces of broken bottles into her private parts.

Her mother told the court this morning that Menesia has left behind two sons.

“She had a job and would always support us at home. We still have not gotten over her death and our livelihood has not been the same since. Her children still do not understand how their mother died. On days like mothers’ day, they express how much they miss her. Her siblings are left to imagine how she would have been with her children,” Fredericka said, unable to contain her tears.

The suspects’ actions in court, she says, are a clear demonstration that they have no remorse or sympathy for their actions.

Meanwhile, Tsowaseb’s lawyer, Messe Tjituri, has requested the court for a lesser sentence compared to Dausab because he did not do the actual killing.

Menecia was strangled.

“He was only convicted by way of association. He did not physically contribute to her death therefore, an appropriate sentence should be done. The court should look at the blameworthiness. There is so much to sympathise with because he also has no history of violence towards other people,” Tjituri argued.

Tsowaseb has various previous convictions, including theft, dating back to the 90s.

Dausab also has a list of previous convictions ranging from theft, rape, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, also from the 90s.
