Coca Cola revives Copa cup in Namibia to develop talent

THE Copa Coca Cola cup Namibia edition is in revival mode after the leading soft drink company launched the edition is Namibia with the winning ‘dream team’ expected to take part in the Africa cup final slated for December 2019.

The launch took place in Windhoek with the Namibian School Sport Union (NSSU) taking charge in selecting school teams that will kick off regional games as from 7 June until 20 July.
NSSU National Coordinator, Solly Duiker said that the initiative from CocaCola will help scout out talent from grassroots level from the 520 schools that will take part in the tournament.
Schools will be required to register a total number of 20 learners that will compete at a circuit level before progressing through to the regional final games.
Duiker said that competition will host 15 year old boys and girls in football development whereby the best will be chosen to represent the national at a continental level.
“This initiative will give each and every Namibian child an opportunity to showcase their talent,” he said.
The Copa Coca Cola was first launched in 1989 in Zimbabwe and has since take place in more than 60 countries across the globe. Namibia previously took part in the tournament 16 years ago.
