BRAVE Warriors head coach, Ricardo Mannetti, has called up 17 players to join the training squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Egypt.
The players selected for training will be most likely form part of the 28 players who will travel to Dubai on 3 June for the team’s international friendly match against Ghana that will take place on 9 June in preparation for Egypt.
Mannetti said the inclusion of foreign-based players will help in his game plan as Namibia is set to make its third appearance at the AFCON tournament.
“I had a talk with them and once we get to the camp, it’s only for them to adjust and really blend in. We have friendly matches coming up and I will put them in and see how they do,” he said.
The tournament considered as the ‘World Cup’ of Africa is only 29 days away and Namibia is faced with the difficult task of getting past its group stage opponents, South Africa, Morocco and Ivory Coast.
He added that the final 28 men squad will be announced after the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) cup.
The following players will go to the High Performance Centre in Pretoria as of Monday, 27 May.
Virgil Vries, Maximillian Mbaeva, Ryan Nyambe, Chris Katjiukua, Tiberius Lombard, Riaan Hanamub, Ananias Gebhardt, Benyamen Nenkavu, Danzil Haoseb, Manfred Starke, Willy Stephanus, Petrus Shitembi, Deon Hotto, Benson Shilongo, Iitamunua Keimuine, Peter Shalulile and Ronald Ketjijere.
