Denzyl Bruwer, the former Brave Warriors goal keeper who represented Namibia in 23 international matches, became the second Namibian sports star in as many months to be arrested and charged with house breaking and theft.
The 42-year-old Bruwer spent the weekend in police custody after he was arrested on charges of house breaking with the intent to steal and theft.
He was remanded in custody until the 24th of June 2019 after making his first appearance in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court on Monday
During March of this year Roger Thompson, a former member of the Namibian National Rugby squad and former coach of the Namibian Under-20 team was arrested and charged with three counts of house breaking with the intent to steal, theft, the use of a vehicle without the owners’ consent and the driving a vehicle without the owners’ consent.
The matter against Thompson is still pending in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court.
In the more recent fall from grace of a sports star, Bruwer stands accused of breaking into two flats in the Tamariskia neighbourhood of Swakopmund on Thursday.
According to the official police report provided by the Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, Bruwer allegedly broke down the door of the first flat and stole a dining room table with six chairs, two leisure chairs, a lounge suite, a double door fridge, two three-quarter beds with bedding and pillows, a broom closet and a grocery cupboard.
After breaking down the door of the second flat, Bruwer allegedly stole one double bed with its bedding, a chest freezer, a tumble drier and a compressor with a ten metre long air pipe and a spray gun.
The total value of the stolen goods and damage to doors of both the flats was estimated to beN$91 335 and according to the police report most of the stolen items was recovered when Bruwer was arrested.
