The 56-year-old Pontius Jooram ended his own life by hanging himself with an electrical cable from the roof of his traditional hut at the Efo-Etalala Village in Otamanzi constituency.
Omusati Regional Police spokesperson, Inspector Linekela Shikongo, confirmed the incident and said it occurred around 19:00 on Wednesday evening.
“The deceased hanged himself with an electrical cable in a traditional hut at his homestead,” said Shikongo.
It is further alleged that the deceased was with other people at the Efo-Etalala location but that he left at about 18h00 telling fellow community members that he was going to burn his national documents.
According to Shikongo an hour later community members saw smoke billowing from the late Jooram’s house and when they ran to investigate what was going on, they found the deceased person’s body hanging in one of the huts. Another one of the huts at the homestead was set on fire by the deceased before he took his own life.
“IT is still unclear what might have led to the suicide because no suicide note was left behind,” Inspector Shikongo said, adding that the deceased was living alone in his own house.
