MINISTER of Sport, Youth and National Service, Erastus Uutoni, expressed disappointment at the low level of maintenance of sports facilities in the country.

He said that the state of infrastructure in the country is getting worse because those in charge of the facilities do not take proper care of them and when things go bad, all eyes turn to his ministry.

He was speaking during an official visit to the Oshana region last weekend.

“It is our wish to see sport facilities properly maintained, but due to economic crisis, government can’t do anything,” said Uutoni.

According to him, some facilities only need small maintenance work and the ministry can put funds together when it has to assist in maintaining the facilities.

He stated that people should not only depend on the government, but they should organise themselves as members of the public to ensure they source funds to assist in maintaining the facilities.

“Government alone can’t maintain all facilities, but we need to join forces as we have to do with the little that we have,” noted Uutoni.

He further encouraged the youth to be innovative in order to uplift sports in the country and to ensure that unity overflows in sport.

Uutoni urged the youth to come up with ideas that would benefit all people, but also ensure that they can be put it in action and not only remain ideas.
