World Cup glory for the Springboks

Niël Terblanché

A RUTHLESS display of power and determination against England gave the Springboks a 32 – 12 victory and the opportunity to lift the Webb Ellis Trophy for a third time since 1995.

Twenty two points from the boot of nerveless fly-half Handre Pollard and two second-half tries from wingers Makazole Mapimpi and Cheslin Kolbe ground England into the dirt.

England trailed by six points at the interval after taking a hammering in the scrums.

Despite four penalties from Captain Owen Farrell England never looked like closing that gap as the Springboks produced an outstanding display to match those of 1995 in Johannesburg and 2007 in Paris.

Siya Kolisi, became the first black captain to collect the Webb Ellis Cup, and him raising the Webb Ellis Trophy is set to become as treasured as any picture in Springbok history.
