Attacked for a paltry N$20

Frans, in an exclusive interview with Informanté, still physically in pain with a bruised, swollen face and visible knife wounds, said that she was walking home to her two kids from work last Friday in Havanna, when at around 18h00, five unidentified men approached her and surrounded her.

The men, who she said spoke in Oshiwambo, Damara and Afrikaans, allegedly threatened her with knives and commanded her to surrender her handbag.

“I was so afraid. During the scuffle, I threw my phone and it landed under a rock. Luckily, they didn’t notice and when I went back to the scene on Saturday, I found it there, untouched. It was all by God’s grace. The worst could have happened, I could have been raped, but thankfully that did not happen. I screamed for help and passersby came to my rescue,”

Frans said.

A domestic worker by profession, the 31-year-old said that the thieves only managed to get away with the N$20 she had, which was supposed to get he to work on Monday. Her boss has since given her the entire week off to recover.

Her knocking-off hour was also changed from 17h00 to 16h00. She pleaded with City of Windhoek to install street lights, citing that similar crimes in her neighbourhood are a daily occurrence because of low visibility. She is yet to open a case with the police.
