THE 30-year-old Gabriela Jacobs, a well known resident of Walvis Bay is currently in a critical condition in the Welwitchia Private Hospital after she crashed her red Volkswagen Polo headlong into an oncoming truck.
According to the incident report provided by the Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, the accident occurred in the vicinity of the new fuelling station at Long Beach at about 22:30 on Wednesday.
It is alleged that a white Scania Truck with registration number N210048W driven by a 30-year-old man was travelling on B-2 road from Walvis Bay towards Swakopmund while a red Volkswagen Polo, registration number N16687WB driven by Jacobs was travelling in the opposite direction.
When the two vehicles approached the Long Beach residential area the red Polo went over into the lane of the oncoming truck and the two vehicles collided head-on. Both vehicles left the road and hit the barriers next to the road before they came to stand still.
Jacobs was seriously injured and was taken to Welwitchia Private Hospital in Walvis Bay where she was admitted in a critical condition.
The truck driver and his passenger did not sustain any injuries.
