Namibians from all walks of life celebrated as sporadic showers fell in spots over the northern half of Namibia.
Although not official farmers in the area of Omitara measured up to 15 millimetres of rain while further to the east at Gobabis only light rain showers were reported.
Residents of Windhoek also reported a sustained shower late on Friday afternoon. To the south west of the capital in the Khomas Hochland farmers celebrated the first rains of the season.
A thunder shower over the Omaruru area had residents of Karibib hoping that the clouds might move their way.
Further north rain was reported in Khorixas. Divundu in in Kavngo East and Katima Mulilo also received some showers during Friday.
Official rain fall measured by the Namibia Meteorological Services on Thursday at its stations across Namibia never went above the three millimetre mark. Most of the stations measured one millimetre or less.
Later today isolated thunder showers will be confined to patches in northern Namibia and far north-west Botswana
The weather forecast for today predicts partly cloudy and hot conditions with a few to isolated thundershowers in the north, central and east of Namibia.
Partly cloudy and cool to warm condition with few rain showers and thundershowers can be expected on the central and northern parts of the coast. For the southern coast, sunny and warm conditions are predicted.
