THE Executive Director of the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture, Sanet Steenkamp, issued an urgent notice to warn Regional Education Directorates not to deviate from the set school calendar.
The announcement reads as follows:
The Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture has observed with great concern communication issued by the Hardap Regional Education Directorate and others indicating that the last day of schools and hostel is August 2nd, 2019 without the approval and endorsement from the Executive Director.
The 2019 School calendar indicates that schools closes on August 9th, 2019 and it remains as such. All Regional Education Directorates that have issued such communications to schools are hereby directed to rescind same and immediately and ensure that the examinations continue uninterrupted and no altercation of set timetables are to be effected by any school.
As far as deviation from the school calendar is concerned, only the Omaheke Directorate of Education requested and was granted permission to deviate from the calendar, however this deviation is only applicable to the hostel boarders for whom special arrangements should be made by the regional office and the respective schools to ensure that the affected learners complete their examinations as per their school schedules.
The Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture whole heartedly apologises for any inconveniences to all shareholders that this communication might have caused, especially to the learners, parents and guardians.
