THE hosts of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations will be back in action against South Africa in the second day of the round-of-16 stage of the tournament.
Egypt’s campaign up until now in the tournament was without blemish. Winning all three games in the group stage the Pharaohs did not concede a single goal and was the first team to qualify for the round-of-16 stage.
The South Africans are one of the four teams who were selected from the best third positions in the groups. Bafana Bafana’s only goal in the tournament so far was against Namibia in the second round of the group stage.
The second game of the round-of-16 will be between Nigeria and Cameroon
The stakes will be high for defending AFCON champions Cameroon that has failed to get much needed goals in the run up to the current knock-out round. Nigeria must also make a strong statement after their shock defeat against AFCON debutants, Madagascar.
The Super Eagles’ defeat against Madagascar was alleged to be the result of protest action stemming from unpaid bonuses. The Cameroonian side had the same troubles going into the tournament.
The West African derby between Nigeria and Cameroon will kick off at 18:00 while the match between the Pharaohs and Bafana Bafana will start at 21:00 tonight.
