ONE person was killed instantly and another was critically injured during a head-on collision between two trucks on the main road between Omaruru and Kalkfeld on Friday evening.
According to the official report about the incident provided by Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, the accident occurred at 19:00 about 20 kilometres away from Omaruru on the way to Kalkfeld.
The deceased person, only known as Andreas, was a passenger in the smaller truck that crashed into a heavy transport truck. He was a resident of Mondesa in Swakopmund.
According to the report the 60-year-old Frederick Nicolas Trauter was driver of the smaller truck. He was on his way from Otjiwarongo towards Omaruru when the accident occurred. Trauter was seriously injured and transported to the Omaruru State Hospital.
The bigger transport truck driven by the 51-year-old John Mbanze was on its way to Otjiwarongo. Mbanze was critically injured and was taken to the Omaruru State Hospital but was later transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of the Katutura State Hospital.
The actual cause of accident is still unknown.
