THE Namibian Police along with municipal traffic officials from Usakos launched a search for the driver of a heavy transport truck that drove away from the scene of the accident where two smaller vehicles were damaged when he crashed into them from the side.
The accident occurred late on Sunday afternoon on the road between Usakos and Arandis when the driver of government vehicle was able to control the car after it was forced off the road by the heavy transport truck.
A first responder on the scene of the accident said the accident occurred when the woman who drove the government vehicle was overtaking the truck that was on its way to Usakos.
“While the woman was overtaking the truck it suddenly moved over into same lane. The trailer of the truck hit the government vehicle on the side causing serious damage and forced it off the road. A second vehicle, that was following the government vehicle was also hit by the truck trailer but did not sustain very serious damage.”
None of the occupants of the two smaller cars were injured but the truck driver did not stop at the scene of the accident and the police launched a search for the driver.
The truck driver faces charges of failing to stop at the scene of an accident and leaving the scene of an accident without ascertaining if other parties sustained injuries.
In a separate incident on the road between Outjo and Otjiwarongo three people were injured as a result of a motor vehicle accident that occurred about ten kilometres outside Outjo.
It is suspected that the driver of the small hatchback vehicle lost control over the car before it left the road and overturned. The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon
Three of the vehicle’s occupants sustained various degrees of injuries and were transported to the Outjo hospital. Two more occupants of the vehicle did not sustain any serious injuries but were taken to the hospital for observation.
