THE life of a one-year-old baby girl was unexpectedly cut short when she drowned in a homemade traditional brew called Tombo.
According to the Namibian police report, the incident happened on Saturday, 20 July, at a house in Groot Aub. It is alleged that the toddler drowned in a drum full of tombo when she walked over to the 25 litre plastic container that was dug into the ground and left open.
The deceased has been identified as Julia Ndakondjelapo Kakondo.
Her next of kin has been informed and police investigations continue.
In another incident involving a minor at Onyena, a toddler identified as Lahja Mwene-Peace Magie Shivute also succumbed to her injuries after she allegedly got burnt on her stomach.
It is alleged that the incident occurred on Wednesday, 17 July, when the deceased, together with her siblings, were playing around a stove with a pot of hot water that eventually fell on her. Police investigations continue.
