Three killed in crash on desert road

Niël Terblanché
THREE people lost their lives as a result of a motor vehicle accident on the lonely desert road between Swakopmund and the Langer Heinrich Mine on Saturday evening.
According to the incident report provided by the Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, the accident occurred at around 22:10 about ten kilometres from the C44 behind the dune belt between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay.

“The driver of the Nissan NP300 doube cab bakkie, the 57-year-old Fritz Ambrosius Gaeseb, succumbed to injuries in a Windhoek hospital after he was transported from Swakopmund with another victim, a 41-year-old man, who was also in a critical condition.”
According to the report two more occupants of the NP300, the 26-year-old Certa Erika Naweses and the 37-year-old Kensley Ganaseb, died on the scene of the accident.
Another passenger, a 21-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries and was admitted to Swakopmund State Hospital in a stable condition. She was however also transported to a Windhoek hospital on Sunday morning after her health started to also deteriorate.
It is alleged that Gaeseb lost control over the vehicle in a curve on the gravel road which caused it to eventually overturn. According to the incident report all the occupants of the double cab bakkie were flung out of the vehicle which was the cause of the serious injuries and deaths.
