Starts hopes to finish Championship progression

AFRICAN Stars is looking to progress through to the next round of the CAF Championship league, as it will look horns with Kampala Capital City Authority in its second leg match.

 Stars edged out with a narrow 3-2 win during its first match at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.

The return leg will play out on 23 August 2019 at the Startimes Stadium Lugogo.

African Stars, which finished second in the Namibia Premier League 2018/2019 season, took up the task of participating in the CAF championships after NPL winners Black Africa declined due to the lack of funds made available by the club.

The FIFA Normalisation Committee Vice Chairman, Franco Cosmos, congratulated the team for taking up the responsibility of representing Namibia and said that the club should be proud of the hard work displayed thus far in the competition.

“African Stars commitment to taking Namibian football to Africa is commendable and we can only wish them well and support them where possible to ensure that they do all Namibians proud. They remain our only hope in continental competitions of late and we are indeed proud of their enthusiasm,” he said.

He added: “Competing in Africa demands a lot from a club and for Stars to have taken on that responsibility of presenting Namibia, we can applaud them once again. We urge all the football-loving people of Namibia to set aside their club differences and support African Stars in this important fixture as they are flying high the flag of this country.”

Stars announced the 18 men-squad that will represent the team in Kampala:

 Ratanda Mbazuvara, Mbemutjiua Mata, Dennis Tjetjinda, Tjiuana tja Tjatindi, Ivan Kamberipa, Pat-Nevin Uanivi, Edmund Kambanda, Obrey Amseb, Youssouf Ibrohim, Ronald Ketjijere, Marcel Papama, Alfeus Handura, Gustav Isaak, Treasure Kauapirura, Gabriel Kapopo, Chrispen Mbewe, Deon Tjizumaue and Kaejarukapo Katjimune.
