The SWAPO Party Youth League made a late u-turn and withdrew from the tripartite protest action that was called for on Saturday against the awarding of multi billion dollar contracts to foreign companies especially the Chinese.
SPYL secretary Nekongo Ephraim Tuhadeleni said during a meeting with the President of Namibia that misunderstandings were cleared up by Dr. Hage Geingob, and amongst other Members of Parliament, the Minister of Finance, Calle Schlettwein and the Minister of Works and Transport, John Mutorwa and stated that the youth league will not join the Swapo labour federation, the National Union of Namibian Workers, the Metal and Allied Namibian Workers Union and the Windhoek branch of the Namibian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in mass protest march planned for tomorrow.
At the start of the meeting with SPYL President Geingob indicated that the meeting pertains to the planned mass action.
“The meeting is aimed at addressing internal matters, whether it is a misunderstanding or not. We will discuss it and move on,” Dr. Geingob said before the media was excused.
SPYL made the withdrawal announcement on the NBC television news broadcast.
