THE Electoral Commission of Namibia’s returning officer for the Ongwediva Constituency in the Oshana Region, Christofina Alweendo, said that the special election that is currently underway is going smoothly in her area of responsibility.
The special election is meant to accommodate Namibians in foreign countries as well as seagoing workers and members of the security forces who will be on duty on 27th of November, election day.
Alweendo said that her team of ECN officials woke up early and started testing the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM’s) at around 05:00, before opening the polling stations to the voters at 07:00 this morning.
“Only police and correctional services officers who are going to be on duty on election day are voting today,” she said.
The single polling station in the constituency will close at 21h00.
For today’s exercise, a total of 151 EVM’s were deployed at 121 polling stations countrywide.
