THE cause of the fire that destroyed the building in which the health spa at Mokuti Lodge was situated is currently the subject of an in depth investigation into the incident.
Ohlthaver & List Corporate Communications Manager, Roux-Che Locke, confirmed that the thatched roof of the building caught fire on Saturday and that most of the structure and everything inside the building was completely destroyed by the fire.
It is the second time in about twenty years that fire destroyed the infrastructure of the lodge.
Locke said all guests and staff were evacuated safely after the fire alarm was sounded and that none of the people at lodge were injured during the fire.
She also indicated that the staff members will be receiving trauma counselling after the incident.
“At the moment everything is under investigation and more information will be made available at a later stage.
Members of the local district watch and neighbouring farmers assisted the staff with extinguishing the blaze with their mobile fire fighting equipment.
Because of the current drought the fire fighters did their best to keep the flames from leaping into the surrounding bushes to avert a second tragedy.
