A MEMBER of the Namibian Defence Force, the 58-year-old Petrus Abisai Hango, died in a car crash near the Iilyateko Village in the Onesi Constituency on Saturday after his vehicle hit a tree next to the road.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police in the Omusati Region, Linekela Shikongo, said the soldier lost control over the vehicle and bumped it against a Mopane tree. The incident occurred around 19h00, at Iilyateko Village in the Onesi Constituency.
“It is allegedly that the driver who was alone in the vehicle was driving on an un-proclaimed road before he purportedly lost control of the vehicle and bumped it against the Anemone tree while he was on his way from the Iilyateko Village to Oshihiindongo Village,” said Shikongo.
According to Shikongo it was confirmed that the deceased person was a member of the NDF holding a rank of Corporal and was based at the Keetmanshoop army base. However, at the time of his passing Hango was driving a private vehicle and was on official leave.
In related news the 40-year-old, Magongo Paulus died on the spot, after he was hit by a car while he was standing in the middle of the main road between Okahao and Tsandi road early on Sunday morning.
According to Shikongo the incident occurred on Sunday at about 00:50 near the Onalushwa village in the Tsandi constituency on the main tarred road between the two towns.
“It is alleged that the driver of a Nissan hatch back was driving from Outapi via Tsandi and he bumped a pedestrian who was standing in the road,” he said.
Next of kin of the two deceased persons have been informed and police investigations into the two cases will continue.
