The judge ordered that the last two sentences run concurrently with the main sentence. In relation to these, David brutally assaulted Cornelia Thomas, prompting her to break up with him.

According to Judge Sibeya, the state has proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt. The theft charge relates to an incident when David stole Thomas’ two mobile phones.

Throughout the trial, David maintained his innocence, citing that the child, Cornelia David was walking with him when he left her at the end of a pipe as he left to drop down shopping bags he carried on the other end. It was after this that he noticed the child was missing, he argued.

His evidence was that he had been looking for the “missing” child for a period of four days although he did not officially report her missing.
