THE mother of a five-year-old girl, who allegedly died at the hands of her father, told the high Court that she and the man had a very close and loving relationship.
Cornelia Thomas was cross examined by Defence Lawyer Mbanga Siyomundji when she testified that her ex boyfriend, Gabriel David, a soldier, was very protective of their daughter and had never shown signs of abuse towards her.
Thomas however earlier told the court that he had assaulted her one time after he asked N$20 for taxi to go to work.
During that incident, Thomas said she suffered severe swelling in her face and neck.
“I was working at my aunt’s shebeen at the time and he wanted me to get the money from the shebeen. I refused and he hit me,” Thomas said.
The two were in a relationship for eight years.
David stands accused of killing their daughter, Indileni David, by drowning her in the Goreangab Dam on February 2017.
At the start of the trial, David pleaded not guilty to the murder.
The trial continues before Acting Judge Orben Sibeya.
Cliff Lutibezi represents the state.
