SIX people escaped with only injuries after a head-on collision between two vehicles near Opoto on the Ondangwa-Ongwediva main road in the Oshana Region on Sunday.
Inspector Thomas Aiyambo of the Namibian Police Force’s Public Relations Unit in the region said the seven occupants of the two vehicles sustained injuries and were taken to Oshakati State Hospital for medical attention.
“Both drivers got slight injuries, while four of the passengers were seriously injured,” Aiyambo said.
He explained that a Toyota sedan with registration plate number N16230SH and a Toyota sedan registered as N17934ND were involved in the accident.
The driver of one of the Toyotas which was alone in his vehicle was travelling from Ongwediva toward Ondangwa, while the other vehicle was coming from the opposite direction. The vehicles came too close to each other when one of the drivers overtook a bakkie and in the process collided head-on.
Aiyambo indicated that the police at Ongwediva have opened a reckless and negligent driving case docket in connection with the accident.
Police investigation into the matter is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
Aiyambo also reported a theft under false pretence case after a 30-year-old complainant was conned out of N$31 450 in a fake diamond deal.
He said the incident took place also on Friday around 14h36 next to the Ondangwa Fire Station.
“The suspect is unknown and no arrest has been made,” Aiyambo said.
