The new Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, who previously served as the ministry’s Permanent Secretary and served in the same capacity at the Ministry of Environment and Tourism was sworn in as a Member of Parliament.
During the first ceremony at Parliament, Dr. Shangula took the oath and became the newest Member of Parliament. Shortly afterwards, at State House the new minister took his Oath of Office in the presence of the President of Namibia. Supreme Court Judge Dave Smuts presided over the ceremonies.
Before his appointment as the new Minister of Health and Social Services Dr. Shangula was the Assistant Pro Vice Chancellor at the University of Namibia’s Hage Geingob Campus.
President Geingob relieved Dr. Bernard Haufiku from his office as minister with immediate effect on Wednesday.
Dr. Haufiku will henceforth serve as the Special Adviser for Health and Social Services in the Presidency at the Office of the Vice President. Upon taking up his new position on Thursday, Dr. Haufiku met with Vice-President Nagolo Mbumba at his office.
