A 42-year-old woman tragically lost her life after her shack caught fire on Friday at the Omdel location, Henties Bay.
It is alleged that Maria Xam-Khaos was sleeping in her shack when it caught the fire.
Although it is still unclear what caused the fire, her body was burnt beyond recognition.
A man who was in her company managed to escape.
“The shack was completely destroyed by fire. The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage. Next of kin were informed,” Nampol Spokesperson, Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi said.
Meanwhile, a security guard working for Namibia Protection Services shot himself with the company’s service shotgun while on duty last Friday night in Windhoek.
The deceased has since been identified as 34-year-old Andimba Moses. He did not leave behind a suicide note and his motive is unknown.
In another suicide incident, 65-year-old Peter Petherbridge fatally shot himself in the head at his home in Windhoek’s Ludwigsdorf area on Saturday. The motive is unknown and no suicide note was left.
In a separate incident, five people survived a train crash last Friday after the driver of the car failed to stop at a railway crossing in Swakopmund.
It is alleged that the driver of a silver Toyota Wish, 7-seater, failed to stop at the railway crossing and crashed into an oncoming train. All passengers were injured and transported to the Swakopmund State Hospital for medical treatment, but are in stable conditions.
