SEVEN people sustained serious injuries during a head-on collision between two bakkies on the road between Usakos and Karirbib earlier on Friday evening.
Although not confirmed it is suspected that the setting sun might have influenced the vision of one of the bakkie drivers when he overtook another vehicle and did not see the other bakkie approaching. The crash occurred at about 19:00 approximately ten kilometres outside Karibib.
The resulting crash entrapped four people in the two bakkies and emergency workers spent more than an hour cutting them free from the wrecks with the Jaws of Life.
According to a member of the emergency services that attended the scene three other people were thrown clear of the wrecks upon impact.
“All seven the victims sustained injuries. Those that were entrapped in the wrecks had more severe injuries.”
The emergency official said all the injured people were taken to the Usakos State Hospital for stabilisation and further medical care.”
