A 41-year-old resident of the Oshikwiyu village in the Ohangwena region is the suspect in the barbaric death of his uncle and principal of the Okambebe Combined School, Panduleni Kapiye, who was hacked to death with a panga on Saturday evening.
According to family friends, the 59-year-old Kapiye was watching TV with members of his household at around 19:00 when he was alerted by the domestic worker that his nephew – who has a history of mental illness – has just entered the house with a sad face and holding a panga.
It is said that Kapiye went to investigate and was immediately attacked, suffering several deep wounds on the head, face and neck as he screamed helplessly.
“He fell on the ground and the attacker continued cutting him into pieces. One of his arms was completely cut off,” said a family friend and resident of the neighbouring Ongudi village.
It is alleged that after committing the heinous act, the murder suspect went home, informed his wife about the murder before walking to the Omungwelume police precinct where he handed himself and his bloodied murder weapon to the law enforcement agents.
According to police spokesperson Abner Kaume Itumba the suspect was promptly arrested and is expected to appear in court tomorrow.
