ROBERT Mugabe, hero and icon of Africa’s independence struggle, who ruled Zimbabwe for almost four decades, has died at the age of 95.
The death of the Former Zimbabwean President and Father of the nation of Zimbabwe was officially announced by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Mnangwagwa said in a statement on Friday Mugabe was an icon of the liberation struggle, a Pan-Africanist who dedicated his life to the emancipation and empowerment of his people.
“His contribution to the history of our nation and continent will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
Mugabe is believed to have died in Singapore, where he made frequent visits to receive medical care in recent months as his health deteriorated.
