A possible revenge attack with a knife led to the arrest of the 22-year-old Tomas Ashipala on Saturday after he killed the 19-year-old Augustinus Kondjeni Tulyaameni.
Ashipla stands accused of stabbing Tulyaameni with an okapi knife in the chest. According to the official police report the victim died instantly.
The attack occurred at the NK Bar at Ondalaye yaElim in the Elim constituency in the early morning hours of Saturday.
It is still unclear as to what exactly transpired between the two young men during the incident, but it is alleged that there existed a long standing conflict between them.
According to the police spokesperson Anna Kunga, the deceased on a previous occasion stabbed Ashipala, but he (Ashipala) did not open a criminal case. It is suspected that Ashipala fatally stabbed Tulyaameni as a revenge for what he did to him in the past.
Ashipala made his first court appearance in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court on Monday where he was formally informed that he is charged with murder. The case was postponed to 9 May this year for purposes of further investigation.
The accused person was remanded in custody until his next court appearance.
