Replace lost or damaged voter cards urgently

The Electoral Commission of Namibia has launched an urgent campaign to issue duplicate voter cards to Namibians who lost or damaged their cards to enable people to participate in the Presidential and National Assembly Elections slated to take on 27 November 2019.


In a statement issued by the electoral commission voters with damaged or lost voter cards will be able to get duplicates cards from the ECN’s Regional Voter Education offices countrywide from today. The campaign will end on 26th November 2019, the day before the national elections is set to take place.


According to the ECN statement people have been inundating their offices for the past few weeks with requests to issue duplicate voter cards. In most cases cards got lost or were damaged.


Voter cards are used to identify registered voters during the election process.

“The ECN until recently has only been issuing duplicate voter cards at its head office in Windhoek and would like use this opportunity to bring this very important service closer to the to the people in the regions to ensure that no voter is disenfranchised during the forthcoming 2019 Presidential and National Assembly Elections.”


According to the ECN statement prospective registered voters, who are experiencing trouble with their voter cards must be sure to have a sworn declaration from the Namibian Police in which the facts and circumstances relating to the loss or damaged voter card is stated clearly, their Namibian identification document or a valid Namibian passport with them when they apply for a duplicate voter card.


The ECN in their statement reiterated that no new voter registrations will be accommodated during the period of the campaign.


The ECN Voter education offices where the duplicate voter cards will be issued are listed as follows:
