THE Kavango East Regional Council was the biggest winner at the fourth Regional Councils Annual Sports Tournament after scooping major awards at the just ended event at the Eenhana Sports stadium.
A total of 13 regional councils and the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development competed in the following disciplines of football, netball, volleyball, tug-of-war, Amagoes and mini-athletics during the five-day tournament.
The team from the Kavango East Region walked away with Soccer and Volleyball trophies and gold medals while the Ohangwena Regional Council team came second in Soccer and Volleyball walking away with Silver medals.
The Erongo Regional Council scooped the Netball honours followed by the Omusati and Kunene Regional Councils in the third position.
According to the spokesperson of the Ohangwena Regional Council, Silas Nepembe, the tournament was a huge success because it has achieved its objectives.
“The just ended sporting event with all its activities was outstanding as it brought together all people from all over the country’s 14 regions to participate in a wellness week to refresh through sporting and socializing with other fellow employees,” he said
He noted that a healthy employee can deliver a healthy result that will contribute to the achievement of Regional Council Mandates as outlined in the Regional Council Act”.
The Omusati Region was selected as the host for the fifth Regional Council Annual Sports Tournament scheduled for next year.
