Rape suspect arrested in Swakopmund

THE Namibian Police in Swakopmund arrested a 21-year-old homeless man in connection with the kidnapping and rape of a 41-year-old woman during the early hours of Friday morning.
According to the incident report provided by the Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, the suspect was one of two men who accosted the woman who was walking home over an open area near the Mondesa cemetery.
The victim told investigators that she was walking home at about 02:00 on Friday morning when the men grabbed and threatened to kill her. They forced her to the cemetery where they assaulted her sexually.
It is alleged that the suspect in custody took the victim to the place where he normally sleeps which is not far from the cemetery where he again forced her to have sex with him.
According to the incident report the victim identified the suspect as one of the two men who raped her.
The homeless man was arrested and charged with rape and kidnapping and is set to appear in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
