Rain water flows into the sea at Kunene River mouth

Niël Terblanché

PROOF of good rains that fell over the catchment area of the Kunene River in southern Angola became visible when the water at the mouth of the river suddenly turned brown over the past two days.

Besides turning from bright blue to brown the water level in the river also rose slightly. The pictures of the Kunene River where it flows into the Atlantic Ocean were taken less than a week apart from almost the exact same spot and it shows a significant difference in the colour and only a slight difference in the water level.

The rain in southern Angola also means that large numbers of Namibian cattle that were driven over the border by Namibian boundary farmers to be looked after by their families and friends in Angola will have a better chance of survival after the good rains in that country.
