Queen Nelumbu is going nowhere

OUKWANYAMA Queen Martha Mwadinomho Kristian Nelumbu has neither the intention of abandoning her Omhedi Palace nor that of giving up her throne as demanded by a group of her subjects who staged a peaceful demonstration at Eenhana on 24 April giving her 30 days to abdicate.
The demonstrators demanded among others the reinstatement of senior and junior headmen dismissed years ago and whose dismissal was confirmed by the High Court as valid.
They also accused the OuTA of exhibiting autocratic leadership traits and of lack of transparency and also accused Queen Nelumbu of being unfit to rule and of being an imposter and not a real monarch.
Queen Nelumbu’s grace period for vacating her palace and giving up the throne expires this weekend.
However, the demonstrators did not reveal what they would do next should Nelumbu fail to meet their demand within the stipulated time frame.
The Oukwanyama Traditional Authority (OuTA) has been mum on the matter arguing that the demonstrators’ petition was not addressed to them.
“The petition was addressed to the Minister of Urban and Rural Development and as far as we know he has not yet given any feedback,” said senior traditional councillor and OuTA chairman George Nelulu.
Reliable sources close to the Omhedi Palace say that Nelumbu is unmoved by the demonstrators’ allegations against her and the OuTA in general.
“The Queen is staying put,” they said.
Sources also revealed that the latest developments in Oukwanyama will be put under the microscope during a closed door meeting between Nelumbu and a select group of her lieutenants on Wednesday.
A village headman who spoke on condition of anonymity because he has no permission to talk about the matter said: “The demonstrators were just a small group of disgruntled individuals. This we can prove and we will soon expose them as ‘fake’ by organizing a really huge gathering of Ovakwanyama in support of our Queen. Let the numbers talk.”
