Public assistance leads to arrest of second escaped fugitive

THE 24-year-old Josef Ganaseb, one of three young men that escaped form police custody in Henties Bay a little more than a week ago, was re-arrested in Swakopmund on Sunday.
According to the Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, a member of the public informed the police about the whereabouts of the fugitive.
“Detectives followed up on information received from members of the public and re-arrested Ganaseb where he was hiding out in Swakopmund. We are still looking for the 21-year-old Andreas David who escaped along with the two fugitives we already arrested,” Deputy Commissioner Iikutyyu said.
The three fugitives were awaiting trial prisoners and faced charges ranging from assault, rape and armed robbery.
The first fugitive, the 19-year-old Johannes (Johny) Nuseb, was re-arrested in the Mondesa neighbourhood of Swakopmund only a few days after the escape.
The three trial awaiting prisoners used some kind of saw blade to cut their way out of the police holding cell in Henties Bay.
Any person who knows the whereabouts of Andreas David is requested to contact Deputy Commissioner Iikuyu ate 081 246 4757 or Detective Warrant Officer Sakaria Shikalepo, the Unit Commander Henties Bay Criminal Investigation Unit at 081 273 5662 with their information. Such persons can also report their information to the nearest Police Station.
