PRESIDENT Hage Geingob in his capacity as the Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community has sent a message of condolences to President of the United Republic of Tanzania, John Pombe Joseph Magufuli over the tragic death of at least 60 people during a fuel tanker fire caused by leaking petrol.
In a statement, the Dr. Geingob says the death of so many people is a loss not only to Tanzania but to the entire SADC.
According to the statement the SADC has learnt with great sorrow and sadness of a deadly fire accident that followed a fuel tanker accident in Morogoro, the United Republic of Tanzania this morning on 10th August 2019 that claimed the lives of about 60 people, and injured more than 70 people, some very seriously.
“On behalf of the SADC Member States and indeed on my own behalf, we wish to express our deepest condolences to His Excellency President John Pombe Joseph Magufuli, the Government and the people of the United Republic of Tanzania, and the families of the deceased. This is a loss not only to Tanzania, but to the SADC region as a whole.”
Dr. Geingob said the SADC sympathizes and remains in solidarity with the Government and the people of Tanzania during this painful and sad moment.
“We wish all Tanzanians courage and strength as the Country faces this big loss. May I on behalf all SADC Member States convey our words of sympathy and support to all the bereaved families, and may the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace.”
President Geingob also wished those people that have been injured in the accident a speedy recovery and expressed hope that they will be able to move on with their lives and contribute to the development of their country.
