PRESIDENT Hage Geingob, pledged his full support to the Namibian national football team who will take on Morocco in their opening match of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt later today.
In a special message Dr. Geingob extended his best wishes to the Brave Warriors and said he wishes the team the best of luck. The President also encouraged the team to do their best and to win the opening match.
“The Brave Warriors will lock horns today against Morocco in the group of death in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. I wish the players and the coaching staff the best of luck. As sporting ambassadors, conduct on and off the field must be exemplary. Brave Warriors, go out and win!”
The Namibian football team has qualified for Africa’s biggest football showpiece for the third time, having participated first in 1998 and then again in 2008. The 2019 Africa Cup is hosted by Egypt this year.
Namibia is in Group D, singled out by football analysts as the “Group of Death”, which includes top African footballing nations, Côte d’Ivoire, South Africa and Morocco.
President Geingob also extended his support for all SADC teams that have qualified for the 32nd AFCON tournament.
