Dr. Hage Geingob, the President of the Republic of Namibia and Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community, has learned with shock about the devastation wreaked by Cyclone Idai and the floods that have ravaged parts of Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe, leading to the loss of lives, livestock, the destruction of homes and infrastructure.
“I appeal to member states in SADC to stand in solidarity with the people of Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi, and see how our sister countries can be assisted. The Namibian government will provide quantities of fish as part of the relief contribution, and I call on the public and the business community to offer assistance to our brothers and sisters who are affected by this unbearable natural disaster,” President Geingob said.
On behalf of the Namibian Government and its people, President Geingob extended sympathy to families and friends of those who lost their loved ones during Cyclone Idai and related floods.
