THE Namibian Police in the Ohangwena Regiona has launched a search for the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a 16-year-old child near the residence of former President Hifikepunye Pohamba earlier on Thursday.
Police spokesperson Abner Kaume Itumba said that the deceased was crossing the gravel road linking the Okahenge-2 village and Okanghudi kaPohamba village.
He said that at least two vehicles were at the scene, one a double cab driven by a woman and another pick-up, but further details are not known.
Itumba is urging members of the public to help trace the vehicle that was involved in the fatal accident.
“Be on the lookout for, and immediately report to the nearest police, any vehicle that shows signs of having been involved in an accident,” he said.
In the meantime the Police in the Otjozondjupa Region arrested the 24-year-old Ndenaove Kandorozu, who resides and works on Farm Otjombali, in connection with the death of the 15-year-old Ransiska Eises in the Saamstaan Location of Nau-aib on Saturday.
According to the Otjozondjupa Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Naukalemo Andreas, the suspect was arrested earlier this week.
Kandorozu made his first appearance in the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court On Wednesday where he was remanded in custody until the 2nd day of October this year.
Kandorozu was charged with culpable homicide after he struck and killed the deceased person while driving a bakkie in the Saamstaan location.
After he hit the girl the accused person went on to crash the vehicle into an oncoming Toyota bakkie. The vehicle only came to standstill after it finally crashed into a nearby house.
The suspect left the vehicle at the scene and ran away from the carnage he caused prompting a search that lasted two days before he was arrested.
