THE annual Namibian Police Sports Championships kicked off at Oshakati, Oshana Region, with a street procession that attracted the attention of curious onlookers.
Over a thousand police men and women from all 14 regions are competing in various sports categories including soccer, athletics, netball, volleyball, darts, pool table competition, among others.
According to regional police commander Commissioner Rauha Amwele, a drilling category was added for the first time this year. Drill platoons from all 14 regions are expected to participate.
Amwele expressed happiness that Oshana Region was chosen as the host region again this year, the second time since 2015.
The official opening takes place Wednesday and NamPol’s Inspector General Sebastian Ndeitunga will be keynote speaker.
The championships end Saturday with the handing over of medals and trophies.
